Jeff Schell, Patent Lawyer

Jeff's mission is to turn innovative concepts into extraordinary companies. Aside from being one of Denver's top patent lawyers, he has played an operational role in building many successful ventures on the strength of IP. He originally founded prominent patent law firm Rocky Mountain Patent, and has separately himself raised tens of millions of dollars to acquire and then later exit from various ventures.

As the CEO of TranS1, he led the company through a remarkable transformation. ColoradoBiz Magazine recognized TranS1 as one of the top 250 revenue-generating companies in the state. Orthopedics This Week awarded TranS1 its prestigious Spine Technology Award in 2017. Jeff had a successful exit in 2018.

Jeff later took a significant stake in Proov, an exciting brand in women's health. With his guidance, Proov has evolved its technology into multiple patented products and has been featured in Forbes. Among its many accolades, it won the "Best Family Tech at CES" award from Parents Magazine. It also was named SXSW Startup of the Year in 2019. Proov has been on a roll, raising several million dollars in VC and grant funding, gaining distribution at leading retailers, and being recognized as one of Colorado's "Companies to Watch" in 2020. It closed a Series A round at a ~$40MM valuation with the involvement of prominent venture capital firms in late 2021.

Jeff also merged the Colorado patent law firm he originally founded, Rocky Mountain Patent, with a tier 1 multi-state law firm in 2018. After his tenure of several years leading the Ventures Growth Practice of Hall Estill, he founded Schell IP to provide more bespoke support for innovators of various stages.

ColoradoBiz Magazine has recognized Jeff as one of the 25 "Most Influential Young Professionals in Colorado."
