January 03, 20232 min read

AI is altering the legal landscape, including the techniques employed by attorneys representing clients and judges presiding over procedures before the Patent Trial and Appeals Board (PTAB)

The Advantages that AI Has to Offer Both Lawyers and Their Clients

AI has the potential to assist lawyers in recognizing patterns in data and making decisions more rapidly, freeing them up to concentrate on more important work. AI can also be used to examine massive volumes of data, such as previous case law, in order to find important facts and arguments that could be employed in a case.

Potential Advantages of AI for PTAB Judges

AI can also be beneficial to the judges that work at the PTAB. AI can evaluate the evidence that has been provided in a case and provide the court with recommendations for how to proceed with the case. Artificial intelligence can potentially be used to assist judges in making judgements more swiftly and precisely. AI can also assist the judge in seeing patterns in the evidence and arguments that have been offered by the parties. This enables the judge to make decisions that are better informed.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the legal landscape more generally, including the techniques utilized by lawyers and judges at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). AI may help lawyers recognize patterns in data and make conclusions more rapidly, and it can also assist judges in making rulings that are both more accurate and more quickly reached. AI has the potential to assist each judge in seeing patterns in the evidence and arguments offered by the parties, so enabling courts to make decisions that are better informed.

Jeff attended Northwestern University, graduating with degrees in Industrial Engineering & Management Sciences and Economics in 2004. He subsequently earned his JD and masters degrees in International Studies and Medical Informatics. Jeff separately studied economics at Harvard University, and in 2007, was a delegate at the Harvard China-India Development & Relations Symposium. ColoradoBiz Magazine named Jeff one of the 25 "Most Influential Young Professionals in Colorado.” He was also a finalist for the Denver Post's "Colorado Innovator of the Year" and "Denver Trailblazer" awards. In 2017, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock invited Jeff to participate in Denver's official trade delegation to South Africa and Kenya.
